I should be working, but. . . .
I had the opportunity yesterday to catch a class with the Boss in Calgary. Yeah, yeah, he beat me up. But, that's not my point. My point is that I was struck by the evolution of this sport.
How people like Brian Bird, Roy Harris, Rich Martens, Roy Dean, (and many more) are constantly dissecting and scrutinizing moves, figuring out what works and why, which ones are high percentage, etc. Weeding out weak moves and tweaking strong ones. Eliminating vulnerabilities, always tighter, less space, more leverage, give your opponent nothing to work with. They do this so that we can systematically learn to put ourselves beyond defeat.
Every day we train, we plug more holes in our game, working towards invincibility. Not today, not tomorrow, but someday. . . . . . . Yeah, someday. Is it any wonder that this is so addictive? Why we miss so few classes? Why the stretch from Friday night to Monday is way too long? Why when your completely exhausted, you can still find enough energy for one more roll?
So. . . . . , my point. Just that I appreciate all the thought and energy and devotion that goes into BJJ by our instructors and I'm grateful that they let us follow along. And that I can't wait to hit the mats tonight! See you there!
